Since 2017, Mr. David has been visiting Japan annually, passionately promoting Rwandan coffee.
During his stays in Japan, he has visited various shops and personally explained Rwandan coffee to customers.
When we see someone like him, who speaks so enthusiastically about coffee and promotes his country even to small coffee shops like ours, we can't help but want to support him. As I will write later, this is, of course, because he produces high-quality coffee.
During his stay, his efforts to communicate actively, interspersed with humor, were very impressive.

After about 20 hours of travel from Japan, we arrived in the capital city, Kigali.
Kigali is safe and has many hotels, so the number of Japanese tourists is increasing.

In Rwanda, transportation is by moto-taxi or regular taxi.
Moto-taxis are said to be the most popular mode of transport for Rwandans.
Mr. David picked us up, and we had a three-hour journey to Huye Mountain Coffee.
We stopped for a meal along the way; generally, the food consisted mainly of boiled or stir-fried grains, simply seasoned.
Since there's nothing particularly unappetizing, I believe you can enjoy your stay with peace of mind.
Huye Mountain Coffee is a coffee processing facility located in the Huye District of Southern Rwanda.
Around this Huye Mountain Coffee company, coffee cherries are collected from seven regions and processed.
Coffee cherries are processed on the same day they are collected. They must be processed on the same day because fermentation progresses in the cherry state. Therefore, during the harvest season from March to June, it is not uncommon for work to continue all night.

The coffee cherries, individually hand-picked by pickers, are then processed by hand.
We hope everyone understands the tremendous effort involved in producing the coffee we usually drink.
When we visited, a meeting of local farmers from the Rwamweru region was taking place.
What was particularly striking was the frequent requests to Mr. David for fertilizers and agricultural machinery.
Farmers barely make ends meet because coffee alone doesn't provide a substantial income. Basically, they grow crops for food, sell surplus food, and during the coffee harvest season, sell coffee cherries.
This is the reality of their lives, repeating the same cycle year after year.
Huye Mountain Coffee has established a "Savings Group" system for these farmers. This is a fund aimed at saving, and it encourages the systematic allocation of funds for the future.
We genuinely empathize with their dedication to such initiatives.
I believe the secret to Mr. David's delicious coffee lies in his background.
Having participated in national projects in Rwanda as an agricultural engineer until his 30s, Mr. David is knowledgeable and eager to learn about crop cultivation approaches and soil improvement.
Before starting his coffee processing plant, he traveled all the way to Costa Rica for an inspection, meeting with producers at the forefront of specialty coffee at the time, and learned about processing from scratch.
He started small and gradually increased the processing volume, maintaining high quality to this day. Consequently, he has consistently won top awards since the first year he entered the COE (Cup of Excellence) competition.
Mr. David's coffee, whose quality truly improves year after year, is not widely available in Japan.
We believe that by increasing its distribution, we can contribute to giving back to Mr. David and the farmers in Rwanda.
