We chose this location as a significant challenge.
The most distinctive feature is: 【Coffee will not be prepared with hand-drip brewing】
This might be misunderstood, so I would like to explain it as carefully as possible.
First and foremost, BASE COFFEE's top priority is the careful selection of raw materials and in-house roasting.
Our raw material is green coffee beans (unroasted beans), and we differentiate ourselves through the quality of these raw materials.
We refer to the type of coffee beans that have been common for a long time – coffee beans produced for mass consumption.
Generally, these mass-produced coffee beans have standardized characteristics and have been distributed in Japan as dark-roasted coffee.
Many people think coffee is bitter because, for many years, high-quality coffee was not imported into Japan. To make the available green coffee beans more palatable, they were roasted dark.
*BASE COFFEE also offers dark roast coffee, so this is not to disparage dark roasts.
At BASE COFFEE, we procure our raw materials after thoroughly understanding the producers, mills (processing plants), and transportation of the ingredients.
Furthermore, we constantly update our unique roasting methods to produce original coffee beans.
Returning to the main topic: 【Coffee will not be prepared with hand-drip brewing】
Currently, many coffee shops brew coffee carefully, using original recipes and adapting their brewing methods to suit each type of coffee bean, allowing for more customization per store. This often involves hand-drip brewing.
This time, we want to 【compete solely on the quality of the coffee beans】 without relying on such brewing techniques.
As a coffee bean seller, our view is that if the quality of the green coffee beans and roasting is good, the brewing method does not significantly impact the taste. Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to confidently sell coffee beans for home consumption.
(Since we cannot specify the brewing method at home, whether it's hand-drip, a coffee maker, or a coffee press, we believe it's kinder to recommend specific brewing equipment for coffee beans that are heavily influenced by the brewing method.)
For brewing coffee at the new store, we will use a paper drip machine. It's the kind you often see in convenience stores.
We will offer coffee where only the quality has been thoroughly pursued, at almost the same price as convenience stores.
*More details on this will be announced later.
If, despite all this, you find it tastes just like convenience store coffee, please quietly let us know, as that would indicate a lack of skill on our part. We will strive for further improvement.
We are by no means denying mass-produced goods at all; we believe both are indispensable.
However, from an industry perspective, I've always felt that the boundaries between them should be clearer, which led me to decide on this store opening.
While I've written at length about my thoughts, for now, let's set that aside.
We've also made various efforts to make it enjoyable and accessible.
① We have prepared a discount passport. With it, you can get a 300 yen discount on coffee as many times as you like, with no daily limit. *Details will be announced later.
② We offer homemade quiches and several types of freshly baked bread.
③ We will also offer danishes and pies perfect for lunch.
④ As it's primarily takeout (though there are 6 counter seats), we've kept the overall prices affordable.
⑤ Of course, your usual café latte will also be available!
So, while continuing to introduce products that are meticulously focused on quality,
we also want to grow by balancing convenience and ease!
